Ombudsman for Children and the Information Society Agency, for four years now, are organizing event in regard to the International Day of Safe Internet, and this year's theme is "Let's create a better internet together."

Central manifestation was held today at the Government Administrative Center and in the spirit of the topic, attendees were addressed by Minister of Family, Youth and Sports, Prof. Nada Tešanović, Ombudsman for Children, Dr. Nada Grahovac and Director of the Information Society Agency of the Republic of Srpska, Mr. Srđan Rajčević, who have emphasized that it is also their responsibility to provide conditions for safer internet use.

There is no effective protection from the possible risks to which children may be exposed, the only protection is teaching children from their earliest age and adapted to their age, needs and capabilities about the benefits and risks of this form of communication. Only children who have knowledge and enough information can identify situations that violate and endanger them and are able to protect themselves and others in the world of this form of communication. Therefore, it is important that violence prevention program in general, including the internet, is a part of the education system and school curriculum and is adapted to the age of children and their needs.

The program was attended by students of Primary Schools "Ivo Andrić", "Georgi Stojkov Rakovski", and "Saint Sava" , "Gymnasium" and Music School "Vlado Milošević" from Banja Luka, and they have demonstrated how to use the internet and which rights and obligations can be realized on the  Internet. Contribution to the subject was given by Associate of Minister of Family, Youth and Sports, who have presented the Committee for the Fight against Hate Speech on the Internet. Also, contribution was made by representative of the Ministry of Interior, who spoke about the activities of the Ministry in protection of children on the Internet, but also about prevention and education. A special contribution was given by Prof. Tatjana Tapivički-Duronjić who presented the internet as space for development and space of risk.

The event was attended by more than 200 students from Banja Luka Primary Schools who are also the users of the Internet and who today had opportunity to learn from adults but also from their peers, how to make distinction between the real and the virtual world and how to safely and securely use the internet.
