Ombudsman for Children of Republic of Srpska in cooperation with organization Save the Children Norway was a host and organizer of the 5. Regular Annual Conference of Ombudsmen for Children of South-East Europe. Theme of this year's Conference is:

"Children have the right to protection from sexual abuse and exploitation. Have we done enough to protect them?"

Basic right of each child, the right to life and development, is not only violated but seriously endangered by different forms of abuse and exploitation. Sexual abuse and exploitation of children only recently is provoking more attention of professional and public society. However, actual number of children who live with traumas of sexual abuse remains unknown because statistic shows that very few of such cases is processed.

Taking into account all grievousness of the act and especially its consequences and traumas that are grievous and lasting, system should find mechanisms for recognizing such children; it should find mechanisms for support for those children during court proceedings and after the closure of case some kind of adequate sanction that would have preventive effect towards perpetrator.

Many children today live with suffering and fear, hurt and humiliated, with the feeling of guilt that they alone have contributed to that - they have right to protection.

Participants of the Conference, institutions of Ombudsman of Slovenia, Serbia, Vojvodina, Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Romania and Republic of Srpska, based on international standards and legislatives in all countries and experiences from the field, will try to answer the question , have we done enough to protect them.
